I was awarded this one the same day as the Sunshine Award, but I decided to space them out a bit. π I was awarded by Tara Therese; thanks, Tara! π
So, the rules are to link to your favorite writing blog, share your favorite writing tip, or do both, and then pass the award along to up to five more people. (I’m doing both.) My best hint for writing would have to be to do it with a friend. It helps. My other favorite tip is that you should never, never, trust a typo turkey, no matter how many interesting names the misspellings crank out. Sooner or later it WILL betray you… Mostly kidding. Really, I think that when you’re telling a story, you should know your characters. (Sometimes it helps to get friends and roleplay random, even mundane, things as your characters. Even when you don’t think they’re getting it right, it helps; you’ll know where the pitfalls are and how to avoid them. Maybe even have conversations with your characters in your head… which is how Selay’uu got started, by the way.) It’s the characters who drive the story and keep your readers reading. They’re there. Use them to the best advantage. Know them well. Be true to your characters, and they will never betray you.
Since I awarded five people yesterday, I’m going to try nominating five different people today, so the awards get spread around more. Sound fair? π
And now, I wish to nominate:
Proverbs31teen, because superheros and Bible trivia at one site and writing stuff at another! ;-D Though technically, as this is a writing award, I suppose I’ll notify her at her writing blog… π
PorterGirl, because I haven’t ever nominated her before.
Professor V.J. Duke, because of punchiness and dadblamery! X-D
Sarah, because she posts awesome lists!
Bessie Lark (whose blog is now read by invitation only, so maybe you’ll be able to ask her permission in the comments? π ), because she’s an awesome writer and knows how I feel when I complain about an unruly muse (hers ships Kiliel, while she doesn’t–Kysherin ships Obidala, and I don’t, mainly because except in certain majorly alternate universes it’s pretty unrealistic to me. Besides, I like writing Obi-Wan for the character, not for any romance or shipping. π My OTP, for those who are wondering, is most likely Arthur/Gwen in BBC Merlin, because they’re adorable and so sweet together, and Gwen knows how to put Arthur in his place when he’s being obnoxious! X-P)
Congratulations, everyone. π
Thanks for reading, and God Bless!
I’m not even going to ask you to expand your contractions in the Shipping Report: they both sound too scary.
The… Shipping Report? What’s that?
Those relationships which others ship, those which you do not ship, etc.
Oh. You haven’t seen the Hobbit, so you don’t have to worry about the travesty that is Kiliel (aka, Kili the dwarf and Tauriel; Tauriel is Peter Jackson’s OC.) Obidala is the ship which I don’t do (though Kysherin does)–it’s Obi-Wan and Padme, which I find unrealistic in nearly all circumstances, and don’t care much for besides. It’s Kysherin’s fault certain things keep on swerving in that direction. (Sometimes I just want to strangle my muse.) I don’t really like the shipping name for Arthur and Gwen because it tends to throw LotR fans for a loop, since it’s the same as Arwen’s name. But Arthur and Gwen (Guinevere) are incredibly cute together, so I ship them. I just don’t like the portmanteau.
Whaat? There’s a girl dwarf comes into it? There are no girl dwarfs!
Lord, unrealistic!
Um… Arthur and Guinevere is not “shipping”. That’s how it’s supposed to be.
No… *cough* It’s worse. PJ’s OC is supposed to be an Elf woman. *prepares for the fallout*
I know, right?! *makes a sour face*
Technically, though it is how it’s supposed to be… shipping can be anything. It can be canon or non-canon. (All my ships are canon, and as I said, my OTP is probably either Arthur/Gwen or Percy/Marguerite. They should have a shipping name, but they don’t! It’s tragic.)
Aaaggghhhh!!! Not on.
Oh, right.
IKR?! THAT IS SO WRONG!!!
There was a Kickstarter once where I was too late to fund: one of the rewards were two randomized patches depicting two random characters’ symbols, and the author ruled that whatever pair you ended up with would be your OTP, no takebacks π
That sounds crazy! What if you ended up with two people who you could not imagine shipping? :-0
Also, what author was this? Sounds like fun, actually… (I actually have one reader of BttF who ships Rowan and Margery. I called it a bromance, but okay… π I have a non-canon pairing already. Yaaay! *throws confetti* π )
It’s, uh…Well, it’s Homestuck, actually. *hangs head in shame*
It’s not actually easily imaginable to end up with two unshippable characters. See, long story short, one of the universe in which the story takes place is home to a species not unlike humans: the differences include not only grey skin and horns, but a more complex system of romance. Basically, “hatelove” is a thing, meaning that one of the forms of love is sprung from rivalry and mutual hate. Another form is simply two people who are so directly opposed, the “calmer” one acts as a restraint to the more “violent” one. Added to the fact that, despite having two genders, the sexual norm isn’t heterosexuality but bisexuality, so virtually anybody could be in a relationship.
Yes, the main characters are humans, but they’ve spent pretty much their entire pubescent life in the company of these aliens, called “Trolls”, so they’ve more or less adapted to their surroundings, pairing-wise. For instance, the girl in the orange robes at the top of the post, Rose, is actually currently in a relationship with Kanaya, a female vampire Troll – despite all previous evidence pointing towards her being heterosexual.
Plus, one of the characters is gay.
If I haven’t bored you senseless with this, follow the link to fully understand. Fair warning, though – it’s kind of hard to completely understand.

Oh. Okay. I guess that makes sense. I think. π
Heh, yeah…Pretty much nobody understands it on the first go, you have to get used to the characters talking about it. π
I think I understand. It’s strange, but I think I get it. (My dad listens to Sci-Fi a lot–such as “The Lost Fleet” and the Lensman books, which I think are pretty cool, even if I probably couldn’t get into them myself…)
Oh my! So many thanks for the award! I feel my Sith tendencies growing.
…..why would you feel Sith tendencies growing over an award?
“…Just as the corresponding false foundations are pride, ambition, and domination, upon which rest the false edifice of power, defiled temple of the Dark Side.” It’s in the formulary. Has been for ages.
Oh…. Okay…. (I’d be more worried about what he’d do if he was grumpy, Rosalie… π )
What’s the worst an online Sith can do? Flame? You can delete flames.
This whole conversation is getting a little troll-ish… and now I feel like a moderator. π (Well, I am on another site, but still.) I was trying to be funny, and I guess I didn’t succeed.
Okay, I’ll stop.
Thanks. π
Congrats Erin! As always, you very much deserve it. π
*pushes you off the end of the bench* π
*gets up, dusts self off, and pushes Erin into the creek*
π
*grabs you and pushes you into the mud* X-P
*grabs a handful of mud and throws it at you* π
*pushes you under the bridge, then acts innocent when your mom walks by* π
*Grabs a nearby frog, and flings it at Erin* Mwahahaa!
*licks the frog* *grins* *calls all the squirrels in the park and uses her animal friendship Jedi power to make them swarm Iris*
*Calls my Great Pyrenees over. He tackles you, and then chases the squirrels out of the state.* Hee π
*hugs your Great Pyrenees* Aww, so fluffy! π
*finds a baby box turtle and drops it down your back*
Okay, this is Athos speaking. Knock it off, you clowns.
Yes, we are clowns, aren’t we? π
Are you kidding me!
*having recovered from the Turtle Attack, I proceed to dump bacon grease all over you while you are distracted by Lincoln (my dog). Lincoln then proceeds to lick you quite fervently.*
Ew! That is just… DISGUSTING!!!!!!!! *runs after you in fury* *gets a shower along the way, though Lincoln looks a bit disappointed*
*pours maple syrup all over you*
You asked for it! π
*I attempt to slip away, now hungry for pancakes. When Erin finds me again, i dump the half-made pancakes on her, and run*
*chases after you and dumps peanut butter on you… which brings the squirrels back* >:-D
*Lincoln runs over when he smells peanut butter and scares all the squirrels into climbing the nearest anything. All the squirrels swarm on Erin. * π
Note, I did not say tallest! I just said closest!
*hugs the squirrels* Awww, don’t worry, babies. I’ll protect you from the naughty dog. π
(Honestly? What’s tallest, then? >:-D )
*begins to throw cookie shuriken at you* >:-D
*calls all the squirrels from my house to do battle with your squirrels. I then grab a stick and charge.*
Surrender!
*grabs mop* NEVER! *summons opossums to support my squirrels*
Hello? Does this mean I win?
NO! I WILL NOT SURRENDER!!! *chases you, madly waving mop*
*enchants all the mops to come alive. They attack you, trip you, and then hold you down indefinitely.*
I win π
*disenchants the mops and chases you with frying pan* YOU THINK!
Hi…
I nominated you for an award, too. The Sunshine Award. Which you already seem to have been awarded. But anyway…
