The Epic Tale of How I Got My Username

…or not so epic. It depends on your point of view, really. 😛

Rachel Carrera requested this story, so I’m telling it. 😉

Okay, so way back when I was still seventeen (before I got this blog), I wanted to join Lego.com. My brother was on there, and posting his awesome creations (he has a much better mind for construction than I do–I can envision how a garment goes together in my head, but I’m not nearly so good at figuring out the inner mechanism of a Lego construct. I’m serious. He should be an engineer.) Anyway, I wanted to join in the fun.

Back then, I had this character called “Erin Kenobi.” She lived before the Republic came into being, and was one of the founding members of the Jedi Order. Her story was a bit complex (and it’s only half-finished), but she was one of my favorite original characters. Anyway, when I signed on, I decided to use Erin’s name for my username. It automatically added the numbers “2893” to the end of my name, giving me the username I now use.

Fast forward a year, and activity was falling off among the denizens of Lego.com. Some friends of mine started a site called “The Lego Star Wars Creations Wiki”, which was basically articles on us. I joined up on Wikia under the same username, and that was where I first discovered the fact that there is such a thing as a chat room (which is such fun. 😉 ) Later, I would join Nanowrimo, and finally I would begin this blog.

I originally joined up under the same username so I’d be recognizable from site to site, but then I started to do it because it was my internet identity. (My only usernames that AREN’T ErinKenobi2893 are my personal email and Fanfiction, where I share an account (AnotherBook) with Irisbloom5.)

I haven’t decided yet if I will join other sites under the same name. I probably will. (Though I’ve been thinking about BarefootPadawan for a YouTube account. Or TheLastDragonlord. Tell me which you prefer in the comments!)

Anyway, if you see an ErinKenobi2893 around the web, chances are it’s me. 😉 If you see me around, please, send me a message! I’d love to hear from you. 🙂

(Oh, and by the way: to those who’d like to link up on social media, I don’t have it. Not Twitter, not Tumblr, not Facebook, not Google+. So if you see another ErinKenobi2893 on there, it’s a copycat. 🙂 Just so you know. 😉 )

TRIVIA: In my novel Angels’ Reflections, the action takes place in the year 2893, their calendar, as a nod to my username. 😉

Recently, I received a prompt on the Nanowrimo forums, that sounded too good to pass up to me, and I thought the readers of my blog would also like to see it!

Enjoy!

Prompt: How did you first meet your main character? How did you come up with the character?

I first met Jay Wallace when I was washing dishes. Granted, I was pretty annoyed with my Dad at the time–after all, washing dishes is a job that was relegated to my younger brother and later my younger sister after I started college–but that’s not really a true block to inspiration. So there I was, with suds on my hands, when in saunters a young man five or six years my junior. He’s dark haired, with hazel eyes that are exceptionally clear and piercing, high cheekbones, a somewhat prominent, straight nose, firm mouth… He’s smallish, slender, slight build, looks underfed, is wearing a ragged shirt and a tattered pair of pants that barely reach down to his calves, is barefoot, and over everything else is a threadbare, worn, yet still presentable and thick woolen cloak with no hood and an attached capelet. “I’m going to be in the resistance, won’t I?” he asks, and then I realize I’m cheating–he is the Elayatar incarnation of Obi-Wan Kenobi, but then, who needs to know that? After all, he’ll soon be a character all his own.

Jay Wallace is one of the two main protagonists of the novel Angels’ Reflections. You can read about this novel on my Novels page, or on the Camp Nanowrimo website.

April 2013 (Book 1: The Broken Dream)

July 2013 (Book 2: The Child of the Promise)

Hello? Anyone out there?

Preparation for Nanowrimo Camp: FUN! 😀 Is anyone else super excited? I sure know I am!!!

Okay, so I’m working on the same project as I have been last year for the past two camps and hoping to complete it this time. As soon as I get my laptop back, I’ll start preliminary editing. This is why I love first drafts: you can mess with them as much as you like and see what works best. (I’m addicted to everything Microsoft Word. Did you notice? :-P)

Okay, that first bit was written before my laptop came back. I am currently writing this on my laptop! YAY! 😀

So, besides announcing camp… I have a laptop return to announce! Yay!

Well, recently I’ve been working on getting together the camp workshop, using these blog posts… I think that this blog is like journal keeping for me. I have an obligation to write, since I’m writing for people. Keeping a journal just for myself feels sort of counter-intuitive. Thus, I write my blog more than my diary. It’s almost like I’m keeping a record of all my most pertinent discoveries, and not just for myself, so it keeps me accountable.

I will be continuing my camp project of April and July 2014 that I failed to complete in November. In this chapter of the Angels’ Reflections saga, we meet a whole new group of characters, the Shape-Shifters of Kalya: Karyll, the Raven; Verun, the Wolf; Nadya, the Falcon; and Beckra, the Bear. These four are the only survivors of a genocide against the Shape-Shifters’ race, and play well into the dystopian theme of the previous stories, since they are different from the other people of the world, they want more than simply what they are given, they live under a brain-washing government that promises a utopia, but doesn’t properly deliver… I could take all day listing the reasons why they fit! 😉

Verun, especially, will share a special bond with the Binders, Jay and Aliana: All three of them possess powers that they don’t fully understand, all three of them have a special destiny to complete, and all three of them are questions that have never been posed before.

This is it. This is the final battle for both Elayatar and Kalya. There is nowhere to turn, nowhere to run. Sides must be taken. There is no going back from this moment.

All roads lead here.
